HashNet is thrilled to share details of our recent participation in the groundbreaking UNIDO project, “Establishment of Cross-Border Interoperable Infrastructure Node in Tanzania.” This innovative project aims to foster seamless digital connectivity and enhance cross-border data exchange, marking a significant step towards digital transformation in East Africa. The project launch mission, held from May 16 to 20, 2023, in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, was pivotal for HashNet and its partners.

Key Highlights of the Mission

The mission started with a flight from Ljubljana/Vienna to Dar es Salaam, setting the stage for an intensive week of discussions, technical evaluations, and collaborative efforts with Tanzanian stakeholders. Here’s a recap of the key activities and achievements during this mission:

Wednesday, 17 May 2023 The day began with a meeting with the National Institute of Transport (NIT) management, providing an opportunity to align project objectives and establish a shared vision. The team toured NIT facilities after a tea break to assess the infrastructure and understand the technical environment. A productive technical discussion in the afternoon further refined the project’s implementation strategy.

Thursday, 18 May 2023: A joint discussion meeting brought representatives from the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Information Technology (URT), Slovenia Ministry, UNIDO, NIT, and HashNet. This session emphasized the importance of cross-border interoperability and the strategic role of the blockchain infrastructure node provided by HashNet. Subsequent technical discussions with national counterparts delved deeper into the project’s technical and operational aspects. The day concluded with a visit to the National Internet Data Center in Kijitonyama, showcasing Tanzania’s growing digital infrastructure.

Friday, 19 May 2023: The final day featured a workshop and training session led by Tadej Slapnik tailored for NIT experts and the broader community. Based on the technical findings from earlier meetings, the training focused on equipping participants with the skills and knowledge required to implement and maintain the infrastructure node successfully.

A Step Towards Enhanced Digital Connectivity

This project exemplifies HashNet’s commitment to advancing digital solutions that bridge gaps and foster sustainable development. By establishing a cross-border interoperable infrastructure node, the initiative will enhance Tanzania’s capacity to engage in efficient data exchange, improve regional connectivity, and bolster economic growth through digital transformation.

Next Steps

As the project progresses, HashNet will continue to work closely with UNIDO, Tanzanian authorities, and local stakeholders to ensure the successful deployment of the infrastructure node. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in driving global digital innovation and fostering resilient, interconnected ecosystems.

Stay tuned for further updates as we advance this exciting initiative and contribute to Tanzania’s digital evolution.
