Announcement: Confirmation of the DOME Project Proposal from the EU Commission

We are thrilled to announce the successful confirmation of the DOME (Distributed Open Marketplace for Europe)project proposal under the Digital Europe Programme. This ambitious initiative aims to establish a federated marketplace for trusted cloud-to-edge services, enabling seamless access to digital solutions across Europe and fostering innovation in alignment with EU strategic goals.

Project Overview and Goals

The DOME project will:

  • Create a unified marketplace connecting cloud and edge service providers with customers across sectors such as smart cities, health, agriculture, and AI.
  • Leverage Gaia-X principles and open standards to enhance trust, security, and interoperability in cloud services.
  • Promote the adoption of sustainable and energy-efficient cloud technologies aligned with the European Green Deal.

The budget for this project is €50 million, encompassing all phases from development to deployment.

Consortium and Partner Roles

The DOME project brings together a consortium of leading organizations, each contributing their unique expertise:

  1. Engineering S.p.A. (Coordinator)
    • Responsible for overall project management and coordination of technical development.
  2. HashNET
    • Provides blockchain infrastructure, enabling secure, decentralized transaction logging, verifiable credentials, and trust-enhanced operations.
  3. Atos
    • Contributes its Digital Hub (ADH) platform for secure, scalable multi-sided data solutions.
  4. European Dynamics
    • Offers open-source middleware components to ensure vendor neutrality and integration flexibility.
  5. Gaia-X AISBL
    • Ensures alignment with European data sovereignty and Gaia-X standards.
  6. Cloud Service Providers (CSPs)
    • Deliver cloud IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions to the marketplace.
  7. Certification Agencies
    • Validate services against the EU Cloud Rulebook and other regulatory frameworks.
  8. Marketplace Operators
    • Manage federated marketplaces and provide a seamless user experience for customers.
  9. Governance and Supervisory Bodies
    • Oversee project alignment with EU goals and ensure transparent, fair operations.

The DOME project will:

  • Accelerate cloud adoption by European businesses and public entities.
  • Strengthen the EU’s position in the global data economy.
  • Foster collaboration across digital and industrial ecosystems, driving the twin green and digital transitions.
